The Beeb Do it Again
Wow, that new Yellowstone series looks good, doesn't it? It's more like art than a nature programme. Must be excellent viewing in HD (we only have Freeview, which looks good in itself). Highly recommended!
I'm being anal retentive again, and am linking one box set to another via cast members. It's actually just an excuse to be able to see all those comedy shows I've been longing to watch (again) for a long time but haven't quite got round to. So after the last two weeks' insane hyper-devouring of Red Dwarf, I started watching The Brittas Empire during the weekend (link: Chris Barrie), then I'll start watching
Green Wing (link: Pippa Haywood),
and then Black Books (link: Tamsin Greig),
How Do You Want Me (link: Dylan Moran),
Big Train (link: Mark Heap),
Spaced (link: Simon Pegg)
and Hippies (link: Peter Serafinowicz).
From there I want to venture into the world of film by linking Julian Rhind-Tutt to Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, where we can actually link back to Red Dwarf again via Chris Barrie. Hooray. I need a lie-down.

Very Eager to Start the Weekend
I have no real plans for the weekend, but looking forward to it nevertheless. Probably because I actually have the whole weekend off for once. And because I bought some books today I'm looking forward to reading. I bought them on a whim, so hopefully they don't suck too much.
We tried a new curry place today and were pleasantly surprised. Will definitely order from them again, even though it took me four minutes to explain to them where we live.
Peter Serafinowicz was a guest on HIGNFY again tonight. Still waiting for him to actually say something when he's there.
And at work today we had a major fire drill which went well (they say.) Anything to get out of the office for a while...
Ta-ta for now!

More Comedy
I finally gave in and signed up for Amazon Prime for GBP 49 a year, just because I am fed up of wasting so much time waiting for the postman every time I order something online. At least with this I know which day it'll arrive. Plus, these days Amazon is starting to have better prices than old favourite Play.com--and they have many more products to choose from--so I think it's worth it.
First DVD bought with the new scheme: Broken News. I already recorded it when it was shown on telly, but that was because I was afraid it would never be released on DVD. Also, the brilliant Hippies will be released next week. Nice.
Just finished listening to Seymour the Fractal Cat from 1996. Reminded me a bit of The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In addition to the perfectly cast Greg Proops, there was a very nice surprise of hearing Peter Serafinowicz in a few roles as well. And it made me want to explore writing for radio (an idea with which I have toyed for many years.)

Robin and Colin
It all started with a link to something related to the long-awaited (but never-arriving) game Spore. I found a link to a video on YouTube showing Robin Williams playing around with the game and this video was linked to his appearance on Whose Line is it Anyway - Part 1 here and Part 2 here. Then I found a link to one of the classics with Colin Mochrie. All hilarious. Actually, if you have the time, you should probably have a look at all the clips you can find from Whose Line is it Anyway. Otherwise I may have to come around and slap you silly.
Oh, by the way. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I watched telly and ate cheese and drank wine all night, so by half ten I was so drowsy I wanted to go to bed, but managed to hold on for the next two hours to see the fireworks etc. It's still fun to see the Southbank fireworks from my window and on the telly at the same time. Instead of watching any of the celebratory programmes on the Beeb and ITV, I opted for Five's Best ever 80's movies and had a jolly old time. I also watched last night's Mastermind simply because it was going to feature Peter Serafinowicz. A slightly freaky thing happened, though. On my way home from work, I thought "wouldn't it be fun if his chosen subject would turn out to be Monty Python?" - and lo and behold, so it was! OK, perhaps not TOO far a stretch for someone most widely known for their own crazy comedy, but still!
Hope everyone had a nice celebration yesterday and are able to walk upright today! I'm having a fairly quiet day at work, myself, looking forward to a few days off work.

What do You Mean Christmas is Coming up?
I'm starting to panic about Christmas gifts. I have bought only a few and there's lots more to go. I think I have a couple more nailed down but I haven't bought them yet. I keep using my Mastercard, and I hate that. Have no other option, though. Hmm... Must remember to react sooner next year. The thing is, I haven't really got into the Christmas mood these past few years. I've been too busy or stressed out to realise it was creeping up on me. I may decorate the place this year, but I think I'll need some help to even be arsed about it. For me it's all about the telly this year; lots of Christmas specials to be watched and then relax for a bit longer. As if I haven't been relaxing for way too long already.
We went to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire again today, or Harry Otter, as we've now dubbed it, after a well-spotted typo at the local cinema. It's a great film, I must say. Both the second and the third films were rather boring to see twice in a row, and the third one I haven't even been bothered about watching on DVD yet, even though I've had it since its release date, but the fourth one is truly brilliant. I actually had goosebumps and tears in my eyes when the Quidditch arena was revealed. And my favourite Hogwarts teacher (since I read the first book, mind!) is in a very funny study scene, so I'm pleased.
And then Peter Serafinowicz was a guest at this year's final episode of Have I Got News for You (hosted by Joan Collins), which was a nice surprise. I must say it's a bit difficult to be a fan of his when he doesn't appear in much at all. Story of my life as a fan, I'm afraid. Should be used to it by now, though.
This weekend I have been finishing the campaign in Age of Empires III and struggling with the career mode in SWAT 4. So much, in fact, that I eventually ended up playing Civilization IV just to "relax".
I am also currently totally hung up on the song Sleep by Texas. Funny thing, this Texas fascination I have, because I've never been a fan and I still don't consider myself one, and yet I love lots of their songs. It's weird, really.
Current track: Nothing. Not even "Sleep".

Holiday's Almost Over
I've been really lazy these past two weeks, just relaxing, almost lying flat out in the chair in front of the telly. *feeling slightly ashamed* Spent most of today playing Final Fantasy X - I swear, if that guy Titus keeps saying "Huh?" much longer I will turn violent. The battle system is rather nifty, so I like the game in that sense, but I doubt it very much that this game has any replay value. The strictly linear storyline is driving me crazy. I'm not a hardcore roleplayer, as I can't say I'm an expert on D&D, for instance, but I like my RPG's to be much more complicated than this. Oh, well. It's a nice enough game to have me hooked for days on end.
In other news; started watching Ted and Alice tonight; repeat on BBC Prime. Missed the first episode, but thanks to the resume and my superior intelligence (joking, of course) I got into the story straight away. I like Dawn French a lot, and then there's Stephen Tompkinson whom I associate first and foremost with the brilliant series Ballykissangel, and finally Peter Serafinowicz has a part in the show, so I enjoyed it immensely. Owen Teale was quite good, too. Bit of a leap from playing Dr. Roland Freisler in Conspiracy, which I watched for the second time last week. (Speaking of Teale, when will we ever be allowed to see The Search for John Gissing? Considering all the crap they put on video and DVD these days I don't see why this little film should be left out of the market. /sidetrack) Thank Bob for BBC Prime and our many years of importing BBC series. Where would I have been without them?

Ibsen and Serafinowicz
Listen to BBC Radio 3's dramatisation of Ibsen's The Pretenders next Sunday.
Also, have I mentioned Peter Serafinowicz yet? He's a more-than-capable British comedian and if you pay as close attention to British telly as I do (for a foreigner, anyway), you may have seen him in Spaced, Look Around You, Hardware or How Do You Want Me? or even as Terry Wogan in a Red Nose Day special last year. He provided the voice for Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace back in 1999 and that should give you an idea of how deep his voice is. He even did some work on Hippies, another one of those Britcoms I just love. In fact, I think I shall have to list my favourite sitcoms (both US and UK) at some point. Very soon.
For now, I'll just go watch Dirty Dancing. It's one of the films I've seen the most, and it's not even that good. My mum used to be a fan of Patrick Swayze's and I just sort of tagged along. Love the soundtrack, though. I remember having my own dance routine to the song "Yes" back in '87/'88. Must have been an interesting view.
