Techno-wannabe's
Film creators apparently still think that computers are some sort of a mystery. That's probably why they hire some graphic artists to design the computer screendumps. *sighs* Somehow computer programs in films don't look anything like any normal programs. However, my favourite of all time is when Alan Rickman states that he needs an NEC computer to do some graphic analysing in The January Man (1989). Talk about product placement! As if an NEC could do anything more than all the other computers.
I have to admit I've started watching The Simple Life. I wasn't going to, but then I got stuck between the commercials and just couldn't make myself turn the telly off. I have been watching quite a lot of Ricki Lake and Jerry Springer shows, but none of those shows has come anywhere near the intelligence level of The Simple Life. I wanted to excuse the two girls by saying they probably weren't stupid, just childish, but I am seriously reconsidering that statement. And the most annoying bit? No matter what they do, they can't be punished because they can pay their way out of anything.
I will be back with my views on the Golden Globes.

Aloha!
This has nothing to do with Hawaii.
I was just thinking you should take a look at this game review. You see, there are bad games, and then there are games that are so amazingly worse than anything else in the gaming world that every copy should be incinerated. Apparently, this is one of those, and if you're weird or a financial analyst, you will buy this game as soon as possible (before people start following my advice up there), because it may become a true cult game (and I use the phrase "game" very loosely in this aspect) and worth lots of money in ten years' time. Read Gamespot's review of Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing here! And in case you were wondering; no, I did not find this review myself. It's already become the talk of the town among gamers.
Speaking of gamers; many gamers are currently teenaged boys with pimples and squeaky voices, yet on the 'Net they pretend to be really grown-up and "cool". Unfortunately, this falls through in most cases when they start participating in online forums. Apparently, the school system around the world is really bad, because most of them seem to be very dyslectic. It's a nightmare trying to make sense out of their posts. Some of them think typing in "mobile messaging language" is the best thing since sliced bread, and some of them look like they think like this but they're really just lousy at correct spelling. This phenomenon is obviously spreading throughout most communities; people just don't take writing seriously anymore. It's become the norm to make at least two spelling mistakes in every sentence, and if you dare say something, you're "no fun anymore" and a nitpicker or whatever. Our own language up here is being so influenced by English that Norwegians are starting to make elementary mistakes because they are confused about what is correct Norwegian grammar. Since one's language is a large part of one's heritage I think this is a wrong turn that will complicate a lot of things in the future. I love linguistics and am very aware of the fact that languages change all the time, but I don't want my own language to disappear into the English language. Then again, I'm probably not able to change this way of thinking in everyone else, so if this is a democracy still, I may have to conform to the majority's wishes. *sighs*

It's a Girl!
Exciting Day
Just a short notice about the Crown Princess being in labour right now; we may have a new heir to the throne by the end of the day. Another exciting thing about that is that if it is a girl, we will have a female regent sometime in the future; the first one in more than 600 years.

Hugh, Carson and Betsy
I have decided that Hugh Bonneville shall become a favourite of mine. Actually, it has been creeping up on me for quite a while now, and there have been several series starring him lately, so I have finally landed on that decision. I've come to realise that he can play a large variety of characters and that he hasn't been typecast. Yet. I just hope we can all keep it that way. I will certainly do my part - I promise never to cast him in anything unoriginal. ;-)
Then there's the story about my favourite of the Fab 5 - Mr. Carson Kressley; the queer with the leer. Ok, bad joke. I'll take it back as soon as I'm bothered. Anyway, Carson's got the most splendid comments to just about anything. It's a great way to start the week by watching Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
And finally, a friend of mine wants to call Philip Quast Betsy. I'm not sure why, because I cannot see any resemblance to any Betsies I know of (he hasn't got the jaw of a Betsy), but then I suspect it was just her reaction to my calling him "the Bucket Midge" - "Midge" for short. Oh, well.
Current track: Nothing! The horror!

How Long does Fame Last?
I'm not talking about the film nor the series.
I was just watching a short documentary (between films) about Britney Spears, N*Sync, Mandy Moore and the like, and throughout the show I thought about how long their status as being famous could possibly last. It's strictly politically incorrect to say this, but let's face it - if they'd been ugly they wouldn't have had this kind of success. Of course their management and just about everyone else in the entertainment business know this, and milk their potential for makin' a buck to the last drop. I just hope these youngsters don't get too used to being rich and famous and having a lifestyle that requires a budget the size of a third world nation's, because their good looks will fade and they'll be left with nothing but memories. Of course, the statistics say instantly famous people are much more prone to falling victim of drug abuse and depression, so they may not live long enough for their looks to fade. Sad, but true.

Fun and Thrilling Internet Searches
I have spent the last couple of hours looking for friends and family on the web (just because I had a dream last night about some old friends of mine, so I decided to find out what they were doing nowadays) and I must say there is a whole lot of information out there! I've been online since '97 but I still spend hours just surfing (more or less aimlessly) every week.
Of course, my Favourites list has accumulated a lot of dead and useless links through the years (I've imported it every time I've changed computers). I know I should spend some time looking through them, but I just won't listen to reason.
Current track: Jonathan Ross on BBC Radio 2, naturally!

Quality Time?
What is the meaning of quality time? I don't know why, but in later years this phrase has become something that parents talk about when they mean "spending some time away from their children". What on earth do they mean? That actually doing fun things with their kids isn't considered "focusing on the good things in life"? Makes me wonder why they chose to have children in the first place. Looking at how the world is turning now; children seeming to become more restless and violent; I think spending lots of time with your kids should be your topmost priority. Always.

The Danger with Education
According to the local newspaper, a room at the University of Oslo's Mathematics department has been leaking neutrons for 11 years. The neutrons may lead to a mutation of genes and/or cancer. I studied maths there for a while during that period, so I immediately thought of...well, myself, naturally. Then I realised I probably didn't stop by often and long enough to be subject to the leak. :-)

The Thing about Space Exploration
Thanks to the exploration of space we have gained a whole lot of nifty electronical devices for personal use. One of these has now landed on my lap. Basically. I spent a great deal of money on this one, but finally I can toss six of my remote controls (well, at least put them away) and use just one, programmable remote. Yay! Being a lover of gadgetry, I immediately put to test all its features and already call myself an expert in its usage. :-)
Actually, the first sentence in this post was inspired by my watching Space Cowboys for the umpteenth time. I just think it's a great film. And after having seen Mystic River last month (that would be "last year"), I'm beginning to see what a fine director Clint Eastwood is.
On another note, my internet radio is up and running. Well, as long as I'm online and bothered to actually transmit something. So tune in whenever there's some activity (check the listings in the right hand panel); the only thing you need is a computer, an internet connection, WinAmp and some speakers connected to your soundcard. Have a nice day!
Current track: Absolute silence, but I'm considering putting some music on for going to sleep.

Back to the Eighties
There was a show about phenomena from the eighties tonight; hair styles, fashion, pop stars, sport idols etc. Brilliant! Nearly laughed my head off. Memories there as well. So I ended the evening by watching half an episode of Miami Vice. Why just half an episode? Because I suddenly realised how bad that show was. Hardly any of the actors did a good job. This was one of the best shows of the week when I was younger. Much younger. Before I knew how bad the acting and story were. Hmm.
I just have to promote Philip Quast again. After having spent an undisclosed amount of money on buying stuff featuring him all during the summer (long live eBay), I have accumulated a decent collection of his albums - meaning albums featuring him - and have now the possibility of listening to his magnificent voice whenever I want. Brilliant! (Am I repeating myself? Or has The Fast Show finally taken hold of my mind? I wonder...)
Was going to see a film tonight, at the local art house, but then I looked out of the window and thought "naah..." It has been snowing all day, apparently, so it's even worse now than when I broke my elbow. Oh joy! I will have to take the bus tomorrow. Silly, really, when work is only a 20-minute-walk away, in normal weather. I just can't risk another leap about the ice. It's scary enough just walking to the bus, considering I fell just outside my own house last time. :-)
Well, perhaps my downstairs neighbour has decided to go to bed "early" tonight (it's past midnight) so that the rest of us can get some sleep too. I can't hear anything right now, but I usually don't when I've got the computer turned on (the fan isn't exactly a quiet one, like I ordered) AND WinAmp is playing some music. Anyway, must log off and go to sleep. Hope you had a nice day! *waves*

Another Late Night
Don't know why I'm still up. I've spent the last couple of hours surfing the net - Bob knows the Internet must be expanding and updating all the time - I've been online for seven years and still waste hours at a time looking for absolutely nothing. Of course, I eventually ended up looking at some pictures of Philip Quast - which always puts me in a good mood. :)
No post today, so I'm going through withdrawals. "Had to" order Spellforce: Order of the Dawn from Play just so that I know I'll get at least one parcel in the post next week. *rolls her eyes* Have played the demo and it's got great reviews, so I'm really looking forward to it.
So...Eddie Izzard was on Parky tonight (repeat) and I didn't watch! Fortunately they repeat the repeats so I'll be able to watch it later in the week. I was busy watching the 25th anniversary celebration of the Norwegian teenage shows transmitted every Saturday since 1979. Great fun! Lots of nice memories. Must tape it tomorrow, I think. Strange thing, memories.

Thank Bob for Jonathan Ross
Jonathan Ross will be back on air tomorrow morning, luckily. Nothing against Mark Lamarr, I just couldn't be bothered to listen to him the two weeks Jonathan was on holiday. Now, if only the BBC could bring me his TV shows, too...but nooo! There is no way I can get any of the BBC channels over here, not even by satellite. I'm not in the right area, apparently. The only solution is to move there. Or to France.

A Study in Crap Telly
I spent the day in front of the telly, watching the mundane shows that are spinning around the television universe. The highlight must have been an episode of Oprah from last summer. I have discovered that, ever since I started watching Queer Eye for a Straight Guy, I have developed a fascination with home improvement programmes. Don't ask me where that came from. This place surely looks messy enough for the Fab 5 to take one look and walk away. Apparently the solution to all my problems would be to buy a few shelves. Ah, well. Perhaps later. For now I'm just happy with accumulating dust bunnies.
A friend has got a new computer and may need some help throughout the evening, although it seems like she's doing fine thus far. OK, just as I typed that, she called, but it was just some minor glitch. Anyway, I have told her she can ring me all evening, so I guess that means staying up late. May come back later.

Black Ice Equals Black Bum
Yes, well, that's how it goes when you're in a hurry. I thought I was moving in a reasonable fashion on the ice, but suddenly I was lying there staring up at the dark sky. Hmph.
Nothing's broken, but my arm is locked in an 80 degrees angle and the doctor gave me some strong painkillers. Woo-hoo! On sick leave for the next two days. Back to the casualty on Friday. Biting my nails because the boss will go ape. Having a bad conscience because I could do some work from home so that the boss can make his deadline. I bet he's swearing at my co-workers right now. As if that helps.
Nice, elderly female neighbour helped me opening the door when I stood there with my arm in a sling, and the cabbie suggested he'd kick the arse of the janitor who's responsible for the ploughing. Mwahahahaaah!

Some Change Needed
Hmph. Apparently, since I started this dream diary I have hardly remembered any of my dreams, so I will have to do like "everyone else" and just turn this into an ordinary diary. Well, an ordinary online diary (there's a difference, you see.)
I've decided I desperately need the Fab 5 (from Queer Eye for a Straight Guy) to come over and make something of this flat of mine. Unfortunately, it may prove to be a bit over their budget to go all the way to Norway for this. I would even bake a cake to welcome them!
I will look forward to tonight's episode of 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter instead. Hopefully they will show a new episode rather than an old one, like they did yesterday (yes, we're about half a season behind the US - John Ritter is still with the show. *snif*)
Till then: Back to playing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Who would've thought I would actually love something related to Star Wars?
Mood:
Current track: Some Norwegian dance "babe". Can't be bothered to look her up.
